Man arrested after drug-and-booze fueled crash in Porter County

A Northern Indiana man is facing drug charges after he took pills, smoked marijuana and drank alcohol before going out for a drive Saturday night.

Indiana State Police say Michael Gaskin, 31, of Hobart, Indiana, was speeding erratically through Portage, when he suddenly hit a dead end, turned around and hit another car in the process. He then drove away.

Police eventually caught up to Gaskin nearby. When stopped, Gaskin told the officers he had taken two Xanax pills, smoked half a joint and drank six shots of alcohol before driving that night.

Inside his car, police found several open containers of marijuana.

Gaskin faces charges of driving while intoxicated, dealing in marijuana and leaving the scene of an accident.
