The South Bend Community Schools are discussing changes to the Code of Conduct.
Some of the Corporation’s Board of Trustees attended a Code of Conduct meeting this week. ABC 57 reports that the meeting comes after the school corporation reported that 67% of the referrals to the existing Code of Conduct were being made from minority students.
There was discussion of how the current code is being implemented and how they can begin to make necessary adjustments.

So the complaint is that 67% of the students violating the code of conduct are minorities The first logical question is, what % of the SBCSC students are minorities? If it is 67% then there is plainly not an issue, because math.
Even if it’s not, and minorities are being referred higher rates than the white students, there is an important question that needs to be asked: is it racism, or are the minorities simply breaking the rules more often than the white kids? If it is the former, then train the staff don’t change the code. If it’s the latter, then the onus for change lies with the minority students. Either way, the code of conduct is fine.
There are people who will decry this post as racist. Those people are morons.
