Former Vice President and Governor of Indiana Mike Pence received a pacemaker on Wednesday.

His office announced the surgery Thursday, saying Pence was recovering. In a statement his office said that over the past two weeks Pence has “experienced symptoms associated with a slow heart rate, and upon consultation with his doctors” underwent the procedure Wednesday at a hospital in Falls Church, Virginia.

The routine surgery was successful and Pence is expected to fully recover in the coming days.

Pence and his wife Karen are living in northern Virginia before a planned move back to Indiana this summer.
