As Michigan’s online gambling grows, so do calls for help with gambling issues

Michigan online gambling is soaring. So are calls to the state’s gambling helpline.

Online gambling and sports betting launched at the beginning of the year, and in the first 10 days the Michigan Gaming Control Board collected more than $42 million in gross receipts.

The Lansing State Journal reports that there was a spike of 563 gambling addiction phone calls placed to the helpline in February. Some believe online gambling is the likely reason behind the dramatic rise in calls.

Michigan casinos are at limited capacity due to the pandemic, contributing to the growth in online wagering in the state.
