The Michigan Senate has voted to exempt high school graduation ceremonies from the state’s order restricting crowd sizes due to the pandemic.

They sent the bill to the State House Wednesday, with all Senate Republicans supporting the measure and all but one Democrat opposing it.

The bill says in-person high school commencements can’t be banned. The state health department’s order says 1,000 people can be in outdoor stadiums with a fixed seating capacity of up to 10,000.

The vote came one day after Governor Whitmer relaxed mask and outdoor gathering restrictions in the state.
