Truck driver arrested for reckless homicide after crashing into South Bend woman’s car

A truck driver has been arrested for reckless homicide.

Andrew King, 35, was arrested and taken to the Miami County Jail on Friday for reckless homicide and false informing.

An investigation revealed that, on May 10, 2021, King was distracted while driving a semi-tractor northbound on U.S. 31. As he approached a red light at Miami County Road 100 North, King did not stop and rear-ended a Toyota Corolla, pushing it into a Chevy Malibu.

Sarah Wallace, 32, of South Bend, was driving the Corolla. She was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, and released two days later. Christine Wells, 75, of Rochester, was driving the Malibu. She was treated and released on the day of the crash.

2-year-old Cecilia Wallace, a backseat passenger in the Corolla, has undergone multiple surgeries, and is still in the hospital.

Six-month-old Leo Wallace was also in the back seat of the Toyota. He died due to injuries from the crash.
