South Bend Police investigating 7 catalytic converter thefts

Police in South Bend are investigating the theft of seven catalytic converters.

The catalytic converters were stolen on July 3 and July 4, near William Richardson Drive. There were two different cars used: a Ford SUV that was spray-painted, and had blacked-out rims; and a newer Ford SUV.

As of July 1, Governor Holcomb signed a bill into law, making theft of a component part of a vehicle — including a catalytic converter — a Level 6 felony.

Surveillance footage of the thief can be found on the South Bend Police Department Facebook page. If you know anything, call SBPD at 574-235-9263, or Michiana Crime Stoppers at 574-288-STOP.
