Woodburn man accused of interfering with painkillers given to patients

A Woodburn man is accused of interfering with painkillers given to patients while working as a nurse at Elkhart General Hospital.

41-year-old Matthew Clem is accused of manipulating the drip rate of fentanyl for multiple patients between October and November of last year.

Clem is also accused of altering the administration of glucose to a patient with diabetes.

The case filed against him in Elkhart County followed an investigation by the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit inside the Indiana Attorney General’s Office.

The Elkhart Truth reports that Clem is charged with practicing medicine without a license and interfering with medical services by a health care provider.

Court records show Clem is currently enrolled in a drug court program in Allen County.

He was arrested in May on charges of fraudulently obtaining a controlled substance.
