It turns out Elkhart County Health officer Dr. Bethany Wait may be leaving her post because of disagreements she and the health board have had with the county council.

Wait announced, last week, she’d leave at the end of the year.

One of the members on county’s health board told WSBT he believes her resignation is due to conflicts with the Elkhart County Council combined with the council’s recent decision to not apply for a $3 million dollar CDC grant.

Wait also told the TV station about the intimidation and threats that she and local hospital staffers have faced.

While many in the health community have praised the job she’s done, Wait says at a recent council meeting, she was called a liar and a Nazi.
