Niles man charged after allegedly shooting Michigan State Police trooper

A Niles man has been charged for allegedly shooting a Michigan State Trooper during a traffic stop earlier this month.

The stop happened on Oct. 6 near 9th and Main Streets in Niles.

According to the Berrien County Prosecutor’s Office, Isaac Ntabaazi, 24, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was ordered out of the car and refused to remove his hands from his pockets.

A struggle ensued and Ntabaazi fired a pistol, shooting the trooper in the leg.

The trooper returned fire, shooting Ntabaazi in the head.

Ntazaazi is charged with assault with intent to murder, resisting and obstructing as well as multiple weapons-related counts.
