A grassroots group in Marshall County is protesting the use of automatic license plate reader cameras.

The group, called “Get the Flock Out of Marshall County,” held its first protest over the weekend near a Flock camera on South Michigan Street in Plymouth.

Members say they want to educate residents about the technology and raise concerns about privacy and possible Fourth Amendment issues.

Marshall County Commissioner Jesse Bohannon says the county has about 25 cameras, although the county directly oversees six of them at a cost of about 20-thousand dollars.

Commissioners recently voted to end the automatic renewal of the county’s Flock contract. The current agreement runs through September of 2027.

The group plans another protest September fifth, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
