An Elkhart woman has been charged with murder in the deaths of a man and boy in a house fire.

Genessa Jones, 48, is charged in connection with the blaze that happened back in May in the 1800 block of Oakland Avenue.

Dennis Witte and Nyshaun Finch, 8, died after being transported to a Chicago hospital for smoke inhalation.

The fire department responded arrived at the home, the day of the fire, and found heavy black smoke coming from the front windows and the back.

Firefighters used a ladder to rescue a woman who was on the roof. The Elkhart Truth reports Jones faces two counts of causing a death while committing arson.
