Over 250 pound of pot discovered during Toll Road traffic stop

A traffic stop on the Indiana Toll Road in LaGrange County ended with the discovery of more than 250 pounds of pot.

A State Trooper stopped a Chevy pickup in the construction zone west of the Howe/LaGrange exit.

A K9 unit with the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office sniffed out suspected drugs. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 259 pounds of marijuana.

The driver, 28-year-old Carlos Silva Rivas and his passenger, 41-year-old Margarito Alvarez, both of Oregon, were both arrested. The two face charges of dealing marijuana and possession of marijuana.

Both were taken to the LaGrange County Jail.
