Woman denies involvement in deadly house fire

A woman suspected of setting a house fire that killed two people says she was no where near the home when the flames erupted.

Genessa Jones, 48, is charged with two counts of murder after prosecutors say she started a fire at the home in the 18-hundred block of Oakland Avenue.

Dennis Witte, 51, and 8-year-old Nyshaun Finch, 8, died during the blaze that happened back in May.

Last week, Jones withdrew a motion for a competency evaluation and withdrew a notice for an insanity defense.

Instead, The Elkhart Truth reports Jones’ attorney filed a notice of alibi defense that stated she was with three other people, miles away, when the blaze began.
