Woman arrested after man, 66, shot and killed at home on Laurel Road in Clay Township

Just before 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 15,  St. Joseph County Police officers were dispatched for a welfare check to the 52200 block of Laurel Road in Clay Township. Upon arrival inside the home officers discovered the body of a male with apparent gunshot wounds.

The first responding officer immediately called for medical assistance and medics arrived on scene a few minutes later. Geoff R. Delusignan, age 66 (w/m) was pronounced dead on scene. Delusignan was a resident of the Laurel Road home.

County Police detectives were called out and began interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence. Shortly after midnight this morning, St. Joseph County Police detectives arrested Rebecca S. Powell, age 63 (w/f) on a preliminary charge of Murder. Powell also is a resident of the Laurel Road home. Powell has been booked into the St. Joseph County Jail.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s office is preparing formal charging documents against Powell.
