Michigan House weighing legislation that would impact taxes for seniors

(953 MNC)

The Michigan House is in the process of passing legislation that would impact taxes for seniors.

The bills would cut the state’s income tax, provide tax breaks for retirees, and also help local governments make their pension debt more manageable. The cuts are more broad than those suggested by Governor Whitmer.

One of the bills would lower the age where fliers can make large deductions of $20,000 for individuals or $40,000 jointly from 67 to 62.

The legislation would also spend a billion and a half in surplus revenue to bolster pension systems. The bills were introduced by a pair of GOP-led committees
