Elkhart man was killed after being struck by a Jeep

A 74-year-old man in Elkhart was killed after being struck by a Jeep.

Elkhart Police were called just before 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, to the intersection of Cassopolis St. and David Drive on the report of a vehicle and pedestrian accident with injuries.

The initial investigation indicates the pedestrian, Loren Hoelscher, of Iowa, was walking in the road when the southbound Jeep struck him.

The 65-year-old driver remained on scene and cooperated with officers. Hoelscher was taken to the hospital for treatment, but died.

Factors into the crash remain under investigation.
