An important Michiana bridge that dates back to the 1970s is getting a major overhaul.

The U.S. 20 bridge over U.S. 31 is one of the biggest projects INDOT has planned in our area this year. There will be back ups and lane closures for most of the year on U.S. 20, and lane closures on U.S. 31 leading up to the bypass.

As the work continues through December there will be other traffic shifts and closures to be aware of. Crews are replacing the entire bridge, so the lane closures are being done for safety reasons.

Major work begins in April, but delays are already being seen while lane shifts are being set up. The project is likely to last through December and another major INDOT project in the area is expected on U.S. 31 next year.
