A Middlebury man was killed after the Jeep he was riding in was hit from behind by a pick-up truck and then by a semi.

The collision happened around 2:40 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, at the intersection of U.S. 20 and County Road 43.

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office says the driver of a Ram 3500 tried to pass a Jeep Compass that was stopped while waiting to turn when the pickup rear-ended the Jeep.

The force of the impact then pushed the Jeep into the path of the semi.

Oren Miller, 31, was riding in the front passenger seat and died at the scene.

The driver of the Jeep was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The driver of the pickup truck was cited for improper passing.

The semi driver was not hurt.
