After nearly a year of demanding answers from the Department of Workforce Development on why thousands of Hoosiers were being asked to repay unemployment benefits they were eligible to receive, the department says they have waived $7.3-million in unemployment overpayments since September 2020.
A total of $5 million of that has been directly from the federal pandemic unemployment program.
The D.W.D. says they are committed to granting a waiver to every Hoosier who is entitled to receive one.

“why thousands of Hoosiers were being asked to repay unemployment benefits they were eligible to receive,”
That’s the rub, they WERE NOT eligible to receive all of those. Hence calling them “overpayments”.
The government should ABSOLUTELY get this money back. If a bank overpaid someone, they would get the money back instead of dipping into members’ accounts to make up for the loss. This is quite literally the same thing, but with your tax dollars instead of savings.
shut up charles, you probably have a couple years left on earth. dont ruin it for the rest of us
Why should Indiana get any money the Federal Government gave to Me to help during the Pandemic because This State wasn’t trying to help it’s people
My girl is going through the same thing now they taking her state and federal taxes but she feels like she didn’t do anything wrong, she already been to the appeal hearing and they said they’re going to start gun shooting her check but at this point they haven’t but they took her state and federal taxes and I didn’t know they could do that I thought at least you would have to get behind on your kind of sure payments get in default and then they do whatever it takes to get their money but I did not know they could do both
