A 12-year-old boy armed with a gun has been arrested after police say he robbed a gas station in Hartford and got away with thousands of dollars.

Police say the boy got the 9 millimeter pistol from a locked cabinet in his home.

They also say the clerk at the Marathon station on East Main Street questioned whether the boy was serious. The middle school student answered by firing a warning shot, then pointing the gun at the clerk.

The employee handed over thousands of dollars. The boy shoved the cash in his backpack and took off. However, he didn’t get far.

WWMT reports the boy was found a block or two away. Police got his gun and the money they say he took. The 12-year-old was taken to the Allegan County Juvenile Center.
