It’s 40 years in prison for a man found guilty on multiple counts of neglect and drug-related charges, nearly two years after the death of his 1-year-old son.

It was back in June of 2020 when 1-year-old Javion Sexton died, as the result of an accidental shooting by his 4-year-old sibling who got ahold of a gun.

It happened at the father’s home in the 600 block of Leland Avenue in South Bend.

Javion’s father, Avion Sexton Jr., was indicted on 13 criminal counts and, back in April, a jury found him guilty on all 13.

The judge sentenced him to 40 years for Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Death, 25 years for Dealing in a Narcotic Drug, and one year for Possession of a Controlled Substance.

The sentences will run concurrently.
