The USDA’s crop report has Indiana farmers on track to achieve record soybean yields this year.
In 2021 59.5 bushels per acre was what farmers got, this year, 60 would be the new record. Indiana farmers anticipate 190 thousand more acres than last year bringing the total to 5.83 million acres of soybeans for harvest.
However, the weather will have to be perfect to reach that record high. August and September weather is critical for soybean harvests.
Even so the report has farmers harvesting more soybeans than corn! The projected corn yield is 6 bushels less per acre from 2021 which totals at 189 bushels per acre. But that’s still 5% more than the trend yield, making this not too shabby for the weather Hoosiers have been having.
The reports continue to be released each month, the yield estimates will become more accurate.
