A Cass County woman who had sexual relations with an underage boy has been sentenced to one year behind bars and probation.

Nicole Smith, 36, pleaded guilty to second degree criminal sexual conduct and apologized to the victim and his family in court.

She’s also ordered to register as a sex offender, with lifetime GPS monitoring.

Prosecutors say the crimes happened during the summer and fall of 2019 in Ontwa Township when the boy was 14-years-old.

Leader Publications reports the victim’s mother agreed to the plea deal to spare her son more trauma from having to testify. She said her son is taking medication and suffers from depression and anxiety.
