Traffic stop ends with two arrests on gun-related charges

Two men were arrested on gun charges after their vehicle was stopped by South Bend Police.

Officers from the Strategic Focus Unit were in the area of South Street when they spotted a the driver of a Nissan commit a traffic violation.

They stopped the car and, as they walked up to it, smelled pot. They also saw a handgun between the driver’s seat and the center console so they ordered the driver, James Wardlow II, the front seat passenger, Deangelo Alexander, and two others out of the vehicle.

They found a second Glock in the backseat, a digital scale with white residue and a baggie with a substance that field tested positive for pot, according to police as reported by 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57.

Wardlow was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon and possession of marijuana. Alexander was charged with unlawful carrying of a handgun with a prior conviction.
