Five people hospitalized after fire at Jefferson, North Third Streets in Elkhart

Five people were taken to the hospital after a fire in a vacant building where some homeless people had set up camp.

Crews were called around 9 p.m. on Friday, March 3, to the intersection of Jefferson Street and North Third Street.

It took about 90 minutes to douse the flames.

The people who wee taken to the hospital are expected to be okay.

So far, there is no word about the cause of the fire.
