Holcomb signs bill to shift tax revenue from school corporations to charter schools

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb signed into law Senate Bill 391, which shifts tax revenues from school corporations to charter schools when property values increase over a certain threshold.

The legislation also requires school corporations to include charter schools in any referendum that would levy an additional tax.

State Senator Linda Rogers, who co-authored the legislation, stated that charter schools are public schools just like traditional public schools and should have proportional access to tax revenues. However, Democrats have criticized the legislation, stating that it will discourage voters from participating in a referendum and that it unfairly targets the state’s largest school districts.

“Democrats have criticized the legislation”

That’s how you know it is good legislation.

No… it’s not. This legislation took our school busses away in the city of Hammond, even for the elementary children. They expect kindergarten students (all elementary students) walk 1.5 miles to school alone if their parents don’t have transportation /have to work. I guess all those young, struggling families will need to make new transportation arrangements and change their work schedules if they employers can even accommodate, just to make sure the kids get to and from school. Sorry, how does this help these citizens and their families? How is taking the busses away helping our children get education? 🤔 but I guess the government, and his wife who doesn’t have children don’t need to worry about this…..so?

Now how about some tax relief for home school families!

Looking at the general product of the government schools I see walking around town I know the property taxes I pay for them are generally wasted money.
