South Bend Police are investigating a shooting that wounded three people on the city’s west side.

Around 1:20 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5, officers heard gunfire coming from the 1200 block of West Washington Street.

Upon arrival, officers found two victims, both suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. They were taken to the hospital for treatment.

While at the hospital, officers were told that a third apparent shooting victim had arrived at the emergency room.

Two women injured in the shooting were last listed in stable condition. A male who was shot was last listed in critical but stable condition.

South Bend Police Chief Scott Ruszkowsi officers arrived to the area to find hundreds of people, including many juveniles, some from as far away as the PHM school district. He said many people hindered officers’ efforts to tend to the shooting victims.

Ruszkowski also stated that at least 130 shots were fired from as many as 13 different weapons. Besides the three people shot, many homes and more than a dozen cars were struck by bullets.

Also, no word what led to the shooting or any suspects or arrests.

The South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation.

So sad. The trauma. Folks have no idea of the financial cost alone of the hospital bills and treatments for gunshot wounds in South bend. The Police cost to investigate. The terror folks experience the first time they are around actual firearm violence But really 130 shots ? Horrible

South Bend city is dangerous especially after dark. It’s not getting any better, no matter how many new luxury overpriced apartments they build. I can’t imagine raising a family there with It’s dysfunctional government schools, too. Sounds like the city of Chicago.

This is going to keep occurring for as long as the City administration continues to blame the guns instead of the people (because guns don’t vote). Soft on crime policies in schools and then on the streets have landed us here. Doing more of the same will not change the outcome.
