A South Bend priest who was killed in a hit-and-run crash last year allegedly sexually assaulted a minor while serving at the Diocese.
Officials say that the allegation has now been found credible.
The Diocese says that it was made aware of the alleged abuse, after the death of 67-year-old Father Jan Klimczyk. It is not said when the alleged sexual abuse took place.
His name has been placed on the Diocese’s list of clergies credibly accused of sexual abuse of a minor.
Father Klimczyk was a retired priest at Holy Family Parish in South Bend. Before that, he served at St. Patrick’s Parish in Walkerton. He also served for many years at St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish in New Carlisle.
The Diocese says that they are extending prayers to those affected and will investigate any allegations of sexual abuse.
Father Klimczyk was riding his bicycle on W. Western Avenue outside of South Bend when the crash happened. He died on Aug. 22, 2022.
