Two members of Indiana Task Force 1 are being sent to Maui to assist in search and rescue efforts after wildfires destroyed parts of Lahaina last week.
Indiana Task Force 1 is a highly-trained urban search and rescue team sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. It is one of 28 such teams in the U.S.
The task force was founded in 1992 and has since developed into an elite team that can be deployed anywhere within the continental United States. Last year, INTF-1 members were sent to Florida in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian in December and to eastern Kentucky following catastrophic flooding in July.
“Two members of IN-TF1, One Structural Specialist and One HRD Canine team have deployed to assist in the search operations in Lahaina. We lift all responders in our thoughts and prayers as well as all those affected by this disaster,” the organization posted on its Facebook page.
