A candidate for South Bend Common Council has been arrested and is facing domestic battery charges.

It happened on Monday, Aug. 14, when officers went to the 1200 block of North Huey Street. That’s where they say they found Roosevelt Stuart’s 15-year-old daughter with a swollen upper lip and bloody nose.

Court documents say that Stewart was drinking and got into an argument with the teenager.

The argument allegedly stemmed from a situation where Stewart’s daughter refused to give her father his car keys because she believed he was too drunk to drive.

The documents also states the victim says that Stewart hit her and wrapped his hand around her throat. Police took her to the hospital.

Stewart is being held in the St Joseph County Jail.

Stewart is running as a Republican Candidate in District 2 for the South Bend Common Council.

The St. Joseph County Republican Party released a statement, saying, “The St. Joseph County Republican Party recently learned about an arrest involving a GOP South Bend Common Council candidate. The GOP strongly condemn all forms of domestic violence. We are praying for Roosevelt Stewart’s family at this time.”

This might have an impact on his election. My bet he won’t be the 2nd district city council representative come January 2024. If Mr. Stewart was running as a Democrat he would be elected. It’s a South Bend thing.

If Mr. Stewart was running as a Democrat the police and media would have buried this story.

You get what you vote for. Keep voting for failure and you will continue to receive it.
