Farm equipment about to return to rural roads around Michiana

The Fall Harvest is almost here, and the State Police in Michigan and Indiana are reminding drivers to be mindful of the big behemoths that are about start sharing the rural roads.

Large agricultural equipment will be moving from field to field. Large combines, tractors pulling grain carts, and other equipment will be on the roadways. It’s important to drive with extra caution in farm areas and be prepared for slow travel that may not offer a safe space to pass.

The Indiana State Police report that there were 270 crashes involving farm equipment and other motor vehicles in 2020, resulting in 95 injuries and two deaths. In 2021, there were 296 crashes, which killed 3 and injured 83.
