Michigan City woman arrested after firing handgun during argument

A 24-year-old female has been arrested in Michigan City after allegedly firing a handgun during an argument.

It happened on October 18 when Michigan City’s Assistant Police Chief was at 7th and Franklin and heard a gunshot being fired nearby.

The initial investigation revealed a domestic argument between Kenya Atterbury and a 23-year-old female. Atterberry reportedly discharged a single round that struck the ground, fragmenting and ricocheting with one piece striking the victim in the face.

The victim was found near 8th and Chicago and was transported to Franciscan Hospital for treatment.

Atterberry was found on Pinetree Court with a 9-millimeter handgun and has been charged with Aggravated Battery, Domestic Battery by Means of  Deadly Weapon, and Criminal Recklessness.
