South Bend Police are reminding residents that firing a gun into the air to celebrate the New Year could end with damage, injury, or death, and a $2,500 fine for the person who fired the gun.
They say the rule with celebratory gunfire is “what goes up must come down.”
A reminder, on the topic of celebrating the New Year, legal fireworks can be shot off tonight, but until 1 a.m.

Not one person was arrested or fined for discharging firearms in the city limits. It’s a law that’s never enforced.
Anyone who fires a gun in to the air, should not be allowed to own a gun.
