Whitmer unveils budget for upcoming fiscal year

Governor Gretchen Whitmer unveiled her fiscal year budget for Michigan’s new fiscal cycle.

It weighed in at $80.7 billion for what she calls “a Michigan Guarantee.” Now, the budget negotiations move off the page, and into the ring for as many rounds as it takes with the State Legislature. Whitmer’s initiatives are focused on educational access and economic opportunities.

She laid out the priorities in a series of Senate Appropriations committee meetings Wednesday morning. Bridge Michigan reports that Republicans are less than enthusiastic about the plan, which includes free community college for high school graduates within the Michigan Achievement Scholarship.
