A pair of K9 officers with the South Bend Police will receive protective armor soon.

K9s Teddy and Troy will get new bullet and stab protective vests thanks to a generous donation from the non-profit group Vested Interest In K9s.

The department says the potentially life-saving armor should arrive for the four-legged officers in the next 8 to 10 weeks.

Since it was founded in 2009, Vested Interest In K9s has provided more than 5500 vests to K9s in all 50 states, valued at nearly $7 million, all made possible through private and corporate donations.
