A love triangle resulted in a tense situation involving an 18-year-old woman who was shot by a police officer in Benton Harbor.

The incident occurred around 3:45 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, when a Benton Harbor Public Safety officer noticed a crowd gathered around a Chevy Malibu on Vineyard Avenue.

As the officer approached, the car’s driver allegedly drove toward the crowd and the officer. The officer then fired his gun, hitting the driver, Elajah Walker, in the hand.

Walker was treated at the hospital before being booked into the Berrien County Jail on felony charges. The officer is on administrative leave while Michigan State Police investigate the shooting.
