A South Bend firefighter’s home has gone up in flames and a plea has gone out to the community to help him rebuild.

It was on Sunday, Dec. 1, after finishing a 24-hour shift, that South Bend Firefighter Colin Kowalski received devastating news: his home was on fire. Thankfully, his wife and their two children were safe, but the fire resulted in a total loss of their home and all their belongings.

To make matters worse, Kowalski, a seven-year member of the department, was informed that his homeowner’s insurance had been canceled due to a missed payment from his escrow account.

South Bend Firefights Local 362 is asking for the public’s help to donate to the Kowalski family to find temporary housing, replace essential items, and get back on their feet.
