The Indiana State Board of Education has approved new requirements for high school diplomas in the state.

The vote was unanimous to approve the changes, which now moves on to Indiana’s Attorney general for a signature in the next 45 calendar days. After that, The Diploma Rule would move on to the Governor’s desk.

WSJM reports the new requirements call for one base diploma or minimum requirements for all students, a more flexible version of Core 40. Students can earn one or two seals in two tiers based on their interests, and an Honors Seal or Honors Plus Seal.

The new diploma allows students to update their graduation plan if their interests and goals change. The changes would go into place for the 2028-2029 school year.
