St. Joseph County tax abatement plan rejected for second time

A proposed tax abatement change in St. Joseph County was denied for a second time by the County Council.

By a vote of 5 to 4, the bill was rejected nine months after it had been denied the first time. Supporters say it would simplify and streamline what they call a confusing tax abatement process, according to WSBT.

Opponents say it lacks incentives to use local workers. It’s not known if a third attempt to pass the proposal will be made.
