St. Joseph County police warn of phone scams

(Photo supplied/Elkhart Truth)
Scammers are calling St. Joseph County residents, falsely claiming they have warrants and they’re, sometimes, using real deputies’ names.
Authorities say the scammers are demanding cash, gift cards, or payments by sharing gift card numbers to avoid arrest. Authorities emphasize that warrants are issued by the courts, not the sheriff, and police never call or ask for payments in cash, gift cards, or Bitcoin.
If you have a warrant, police will visit your home, and bond amounts won’t change.
If you suspect a scam, report it to St. Joseph County Police at 574-245-6500.

Like Forest said, “stupid is as stupid does”.

If you believe that a warrant will be abated by handing over cash you are not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Anything involving gift cards is a scam! People who get caught doing ANY type of scam should be immediately imprisoned for life! Why authorities dont put more effort into catching scammers is beyond me. There are many very smart hackers who could find them.
