It started with the blue and gold “Water-Winter Wonderland” and green and white “Water Wonderland” plates, and next month the State of Michigan will keep the retro vibes rolling on the backs of vehicles all over the state.

The white-on-black plates that were issued between 1979 and 1983 will be available again on February 1. Likewise, the white-on-blue plates the state issued from 1983 to 2007 will also be sold to residents. Bridge Michigan reports that it’s all thanks to a new law passed in 2023 to bring back the retro plate designs for a fee.

The best news for many nostalgia lovers, though, is that sometime next year the famous red white and blue bicentennial plate from 1976 is scheduled to make a comeback, as well.

If you want one of the new plates, they’ll cost more than the other recent reissues: $55, on top of your annual vehicle registration fee. Much of that money helps fund infrastructure projects around the state.
