Lawmakers considering cut to length of unemployment benefits

(Photo supplied/State of Indiana)
State lawmakers are considering cutting the time someone can claim unemployment pay.
Currently, Hoosiers can claim up to 26 weeks of jobless pay and a Senate bill would cut that to 14 weeks and offer a two-week extension if a claimant is actively job hunting and has been in an approved job training program.
People collect unemployment for eleven-and-a-half weeks on average in Indiana, and many return to work within the first six weeks.
