They say you should never send money to someone you have not met in person, as over $185 million in crypto losses between 2021 and 2022 came as a result of romance scams.

Be cautious of investment scams, which accounted for $575 million between 2021 and 2022. Be sure to check the source of who is contacting you, as imposter scams resulted in $752 million in losses in 2023.

And, do not engage with blackmail scams. If someone claims to have compromising information on you and tells you to send money to prevent the information from being shared, ignore the threats and report them.
