Two historic Catholic churches in South Bend, St. Adalbert and St. Casimir, will merge into one parish on July 1 after years of shared leadership.

Located just a mile apart, the churches will stay open but operate as a single parish.

Leaders say the change reflects growth, especially among Hispanic families, and will help strengthen the unified community.

A small celebration is planned to mark the merger.
