The South Bend Common Council approved a tax break for a project to build 50 affordable apartments near Rally’s on South Main Street.
The $14 million development will occupy the vacant lot at Donald and South Main Streets. City leaders also approved a tax abatement for the demolition of the remaining structures at the former Studebaker Manufacturing Facility on West Chippewa.
The $1.4 million dollar demolition will clear space for future development and leasing.

That works out to $280,000 per apartment! Decent houses can be had for $300k.
This tax abatement scam needs to end. Stop enabling the grift! Those apartments should be about half that to build, at most.
