The South Bend Police Department is investigating an overnight shooting that wounded two people on the city’s northwest side.

On Monday, June 30, just before 1 a.m., South Bend Police were dispatched to Boland Park on the report of a large gathering at the park.

As officers were en route, dispatchers advised of additional 9-1-1 calls referencing shots fired at that location.

Upon arrival to Boland Park, officers observed multiple vehicles and people leaving the scene.

Responding officers were then alerted of two people with apparent gunshot wounds who self-transported to Memorial Hospital. The victims, an adult male and juvenile female, were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at the hospital.

There were multiple people in the park when this shooting occurred. We encourage anyone with information to call the South Bend Police Department’s Detective Bureau at 574-235-9263. You can also share your tips anonymously through Michiana Crime Stoppers at 574-288-STOP. If your anonymous Crime Stoppers tip leads to an arrest, you may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation by the South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit.

As a reminder, city parks are open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Anyone on park property outside of these hours is considered to be trespassing.

Nothing good happens after midnight. Also, start arresting those folks who are trespassing whoever they are.

The SBPD cannot arrest them, they are a protected class according to the Mayor’s political party. Any cop doing that would be discharged.
