After deadly flash floods killed over 100 people in Texas over the weekend, Elkhart County officials say they’re reviewing their own readiness.
Emergency Management Director Jennifer Tobey says while that kind of sudden flooding is rare here, they’re prepared.
The county monitors river levels, sends alerts, and updates flood plans.
Major floods in 2008 and 2018 showed the need for constant awareness. People can get alerts on phones or NOAA radios.
Some places, like the “Rjourney” RV Resort in Granger, offer shelters.
The county is working on a new emergency alert system and wants public feedback.
