(Jon Zimney/95.3 MNC)
Michigan City police are investigating after catalytic converters were stolen from multiple school buses early Tuesday morning.
Authorities say the theft happened overnight at the Michigan City Area Schools Transportation Department on South Woodland Avenue. When staff arrived around 5:25 a.m. to prepare buses for their routes, they discovered 20 to 25 catalytic converters had been removed from vehicles parked on the property.
The district says the theft has disrupted bus operations but efforts are underway to minimize the impact on student transportation.
The case has been assigned to Detective Corporal Adam Brinkman of the Michigan City Police Department’s Investigative Division. Anyone with information is urged to contact Brinkman at 219-874-3221, Ext. 1088, or abrinkman@emichigancity.com. Tips can also be submitted through the department’s Facebook page, the crime tip hotline at 219-873-1488, or the WeTip Hotline at 800-78-CRIME.
