Child, 4, wounded in shooting at Miami Hills Apartments

The South Bend Police Department is investigating a shooting that wounded a young child at an apartment complex.

On Sunday, Oct. 5, around 1:20 a.m., South Bend Police were called to the 3300 block of S. High Street (Miami Hills Apartments) on the report of a shooting.

As officers arrived, they were advised that a four-year-old child had been transported to the hospital for treatment of an apparent gunshot wound.

The child’s injuries are non-life-threatening.

A preliminary investigation suggests the child was inside an apartment when she was struck by apparent gunfire from outside of her residence.

Several other apartments were damaged by apparent gunfire but no other injuries have been reported.

The South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is investigating this case.
